I have been teaching Kindergarten at Signal Hill for nine years. I love teaching at Signal Hill because of our diverse community and the expectation that all children can and will succeed. Personally, I feel that never lower your expectations and children will rise to meet them. This builds self esteem and a personal sense of accomplishment.
I was born in Arlington, Texas and spent most of my childhood between the West coast (California) and the East coast (Virginia and Georgia). My father was in the Navy. I graduated from Etowah High School in Woodstock, Georgia. I attended North Georgia College and earned a BS in Early Childhood Education in 1987. I married, taught second grade and then retired to raise my three children. I returned to teaching when my youngest started Kindergarten at Bennett Elementary. I have a son who is a senior in college in Georgia, a daughter who is a freshman at ECU, and a son in the 8th grade. Stephanie Stannard is our assistant. She is the backbone of our classroom. We have worked together for eight years and enjoy our team. Stephanie encourages children to take ownership in our classroom by learning to take care of themselves and helping others. Stephanie has four children. She has a grown son, a son who is a freshman at NU and two daughters, one in 8th grade and one in 6th grade. Three of her children have attended Signal Hill. | |
